We are the Harpooners of the Sea Unicorn, the Sherlock Holmes society of St Charles, Missouri, a scion of the Baker Street Irregulars.
Although the name may sound somewhat pansy, we take our name from the Holmes Story “The Adventure of Black Peter.” Peter Carey (better known as “Black Peter”) was the captain of the whaling ship the Sea Unicorn (interesting side fact of note: defense contractor McDonnell-Douglas [bought out by Boeing in the early 1990s] used to maintain a facility in St Charles where they manufactured, among other items, the Harpoon missile, another tie-in to our group). He was murdered around July of 1895 when he was harpooned to the wall of the mock sea cabin he kept in his back yard.
We typically meet every third Friday evening of every month online (except September and the occasional “Let’s throw a meeting HERE” month) via Zoom. As we begin a new sequence to observe the Canon accounts in January of 2023, we may hold an occasional in-person meeting.
